The first part of Susie Elliott and Helen Mathwin’s current show, This Moment Becomes More than the Map, is being exhibited at Wide Open Road Art for six weeks as part of a two-stage artwork exploring physical, geographical and real-time connection between individuals. The work utilises GPS tracking data plotting the movements of 10 residents in a one town on a given day, tracing a repetitive track through streets and surrounding terrain.
The work uses horse hair and metal pins to bring together the irrational, subjective, bodily experience with abstract, impersonal, logical control over ourselves and our world. It seeks to preserve the delicate trace of human connection, its delights and synchronicity, as well as isolation and near-miss.
